Q&As with Cale Bodenmiller

Cale, you’ve been at AHT since 2016. Tell us about your career path here.

I found my way to AHT through Tom Broman. I was hired in as an equipment operator. My duties consisted of prepping, packaging, and sandblasting parts. Later I was promoted to Heat Treat Technician where I was responsible for loading, unloading, and troubleshooting our ion and gas units. Most recently, I was promoted to Production Lead.

UltraOx Hyper Line Lead is a new position at AHT. Tell us about that role.

As UltraOx Hyper Line Lead, I run and maintain the UltraOx Hyper line and make sure it is producing high quality parts. I am involved in the incoming and outgoing inspection of customer parts. This is very important in order for us to reach our customers' goals and turning out uniform black parts.

For those that are unfamiliar, what is UltraOx Hyper?

UltraOx Hyper is similar to our standard UltraOx treatment which includes a form of nitriding and black oxide, but with UltraOx Hyper, customers can achieve an even darker uniform black finish. I'd compare our UltraOx Hyper black color to the black screen you see on a smart phone. That same dark black oxide is also offered without the heat treatment.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?

I really enjoy golfing and taking trips up north with family and friends. Also really enjoy watching sports. So if there is a game on I am usually watching.

What’s one professional accomplishment you are proud of? 

A professional accomplishment that I am proud of is being a part of the research and development team that established our UltraOx Hyper black color. There was a lot of trial and error involved in trying to achieve a color that our customers and ourselves could be proud of.

If someone was considering applying at AHT, what would you tell them about the work environment?

We have a great work environment here at AHT Monroe. Being a sports guy, I will put it to you like this: The core we have here now makes up a great team. I know I can count on each one of my teammates when it comes down to reaching our goals. We are looking to expand our core and make our team that much better and more efficient. I am lucky enough to be able call a lot of these teammates friends. You don’t always find that.

What is one thing people may not know about you?

In high school, I Varsity Lettered 9 times between playing Golf (4 letters) Basketball (2 letters), and Baseball (3 letters). In golf, I was named to the 1st All-County team. Basketball, I was named to 1st team All-Region. Baseball, I was on the 1st team All-Region back to back years. My senior year, I was top 10 in Athlete of the Year voting (6th place) by the Monroe Evening News.

What advice would you give our customers?

Biggest advice I can give our customers in regards to our UltraOx Hyper line is that the better your starting finish, the more complete uniform black color we can give you. Communication is also huge. The more transparent you can be with us, the better. Allow us to be a resource so that together, we can achieve our goals with UlraGlowing results.
