Q&As with Mike Langmeyer
Tell us about your professional background prior to working at Advanced Heat Treat Corp. (AHT).
I spent just over 33 years at a tier 1 automotive supplier plant. I was in the 1st group hired in for the stamping department. I spent 9 years as a team leader in stamping before transferring to shipping/receiving. After 10 years as a hilo driver and team leader in shipping, I accepted a promotion to group leader. I spent the remainder of my time with the company supervising 25 hilo drivers between shipping and production.
Before Advanced Heat Treat Corp., you used to be in automotive manufacturing. How does that help you better serve our customers at AHT?
Being a just-in-time facility at my previous employment, I learned how to better prioritize loads to numerous customers in order to meet shipping deadlines. I learned how to handle several tasks at once.
What does a typical day look like in Shipping & Receiving at AHT?
We start the day looking at staged loads and the scheduled completion of processing to see what is ready for shipping that day. Also, we make sure customers have been contacted about completed orders and that transportation has been set up to ship the product. Throughout the day, we also receive new orders which are entered into the system to begin the processing of the product orders.
There are some BIG things happening right now at AHT in Monroe, Michigan. Tell us about that.
The big news of the year was the start of the groundwork for the expansion of the facility. It will give us additional and needed room for growth of our customer base. The resulting move of shipping into the expansion, will free up space for additional equipment which in turn will open up new opportunities for additional work for the company.
When you’re not working at AHT, how do you like to spend your free time?
The majority of my time when not at the facility, depends on the time of the year. In the summer, I like to golf and make sure outdoor work is taken care of. During the fall months, I enjoy hunting, mainly deer, when I make an annual journey to the U.P. In the winter, I look forward to spring!
AHT values family. Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my wife, Laurie, for 36 years and counting. People are a bit amazed when I tell them we met on a blind date! We were blessed with 2 daughters, Alyssa, 33 and Haley who would have been 27 this year. Alyssa has had 2 children of her own, Nora 20 months, and Cooper 3 months. Her husband Matt, serves our country as a sergeant in the Air Force, stationed in Texas.
What is an accomplishment you are proud of – personally or professionally?
I am proud of my family and watching the growth of their families.
What is one thing people may not know about Mike Langmeyer?
I spent the majority of my 20’s, playing softball, up to 6 leagues a week, as well as weekend tournaments. I was an all-league baseball player in high school.
What is one thing people may not know about AHT?
The fact that our company does a fair amount of international business. Also, the diversity of customer base.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for our customers?
